Ljubljana, 16 December 2021 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved EU funding for the project Maribor riverfront redevelopment – Lent. The ERDF-supported project will foster Maribor waterfront regeneration, making the famous Lent bank and the promenade along the Drava River a vibrant urban place offering opportunities for social interaction, recreation, cultural events or just a pleasant place to sit and relax.

As part of the project, Urban Municipality Maribor will carry out a comprehensive renovation of a two hectare-large public urban space in the old town center set on the banks of the Drava River. More specifically, riverfront redevelopment works will include replacement of paving and a new landscape design with new trees, shrubs and plants planted along the promenade. The area will see sites for stands and stages arranged as it is popular with locals and visitors and draws hundreds of culture lovers to the annual Lent summer festival. The redesign plans also include children – public playground equipment is planned to be installed in designated play areas. New street furniture and street lighting will add the finishing touches to the modern image of the completely renovated urban space along the Drava river. The project is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2023.
