Slovenia's cycling network to grow: EU funding for a cycling connection between Brežice and Dobova

Ljubljana, 19 April 2021 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved funding for the project Cycling connection between Brežice and Dobova. The nearly EUR 2.9 million cycle project, which will be implemented under the Agreement on the Development of the Posavje region, will be supported by the EU, with the contribution from the European Regional Development Fund standing at EUR 1.8 million.

As part of the project, municipality Brežice will develop a 4.6 kilometre cycling section connecting Brežice and Dobova and boasting quality infrastructure conditions that will make cycling a safe and efficient mode of transport, especially for daily trips. Additionally, by ensuring that cycling infrastructure is separated from areas of heavy traffic and tailored to the needs of most vulnerable traffic participants, the project will result in improved safety for cyclists and road safety in general.

Long-term objectives of the project also include fostering of sustainable mobility, improving conditions for safe cycling and reducing the number of cars on the roads.
