Revitalising cities: EU funding for arranging the coastal area in Koper
Ljubljana, 9 August 2021 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved EU funding for the project Revitalising part of the coastal area between the outfall of the Badaševica and Žusterna. The project worth EUR 4.5 million will be implemented by Urban Municipality Koper under the Sustainable Urban Strategy of Koper and will receive EU support with the contribution from the European Regional Development Fund standing at EUR 616 thousand.
As part of the project, Urban Municipality Koper will revitalise part of the coastal area between Badaševica and Žusterna. On the approximately 600-metre-long section, slope protection and an embankment into the sea have been established with an urban coastal park also being arranged in the next few months. In addition, rainwater channels will be built in Koper for discharging rainwater from the hinterland south of the coastline where footpaths and cycling routes are established, namely in the area of the Koper-Izola highway and the Markovac slope.
Urban Municipality Koper has already started implementing the project. Work will continue at the end of the summer season with the investment completion planned by the end of this year.
