Ljubljana, 23 June 2021 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved EU funding for the project Road and cycling infrastructure in Grosuplje. The EUR 8.8 million project will be implemented by Municipality Grosuplje under the Agreement on the development of the Osrednjeslovenska region and supported by the EU, with the contribution from the European Regional Development Fund standing at EUR 1.4 million.

As part of the project, seven sections of regional roads running through Grosuplje will be reconstructed and street lights installed along the reconstructed roads. The junction known to locals as Bambič will be redeveloped and a new roundabout will be built in Veliko Mlačevo. In addition, 10 bus stops will be installed and 40 on-street parking spaces provided along the Adamičeva cesta street. A 3.3-kilometre long cycling route between Grosuplje and two hinterland settlements Cikava and Veliko Mlačevo will also be constructed.

The project will contribute to the promotion of sustainable mobility and significantly improve road safety, conditions for cycling and air quality. Additionally, it will add to maintaining the state road network, improving traffic flow and enhancing safety through the reconstruction of certain high-risk regional sections. All in all, the standard of living in Municipality Grosuplje is expected to improve thanks to the project.

The project will kick off this year and is scheduled to be completed in 2023.
