Promoting sustainable mobility: EU funding for cycling routes in Municipality Brežice
Ljubljana, 3 May 2021 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved EU funding for the project Agreement on the development of region-Brežice-Krška vas and Brežice-Čatež ob Savi. The EUR 3.3 million cycle project that will be implemented under the Agreement on the development of the Posavje region will be supported by the EU, with the contribution from the European Regional Development Fund standing at over EUR 1 million.
As part of the project, a 1.5-kilometre long route running between Brežice and Krška vas and between Brežice and Čatež ob Savi will be constructed. Once completed, the new section will be connected to the existing cycling route in the town centre leading to the Brežice Castle, so that the entire cycling connection will be over 4.3 kilometres long.
The goal of the project is to establish a safe, cohesive and convenient cycling route that will boost the uptake of utility cycling among local residents in Brežice and the town’s hinterland south of the Krka River. With this project, local authorities wish to increase the safety of cyclists, foster sustainable development in the region and encourage the uptake of sustainable modes of transport.
