Promoting sustainable mobility: EU funding for cycling and walking infrastructure in Ljubljana
Ljubljana, 20 April 2021 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved EU funding for the project City of Ljubljana-Letališka cesta street. The EUR 8 million project that will be implemented by the City of Ljubljana in the framework of the Agreement on the development of the Osrednjeslovenska region will be supported by the EU, with the contribution from the European Regional Development Fund standing at nearly EUR 1.4 million.
As part of the project, a 1.95-kilometre long interconnected cycling path and a 3.9-kilometre long sidewalk will be developed in the city of Ljubljana. City officials aim to provide a quality cycling and walking infrastructure in the city and its hinterland so as to contribute to the uptake of sustainable mobility solutions by the residents in the region and encourage cycling between urban area and its hinterland on a daily basis. The investment seeks to improve the quality of living in urban area as well as to improve the overall road safety.
