Promoting sustainable mobility: EU funding for a cycling connection from Kamnik to Ljubljana

Ljubljana, 23 April 2021 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved funding for the project “DRR – regional cycling connection Kamnik-Mengeš-Trzin-Ljubljana”. The project implemented by the municipality Kamnik under the Agreement on the Development of the Osrednjeslovenska Region is worth EUR 3.8 million with the European Regional Development Fund contribution standing at a little under EUR 2.5 million.

As part of the project, the municipality Kamnik will ensure sustainable mobility for inhabitants’ daily access to work and schools in the municipalities of Kamnik, Mengeš, Trzin and Ljubljana. The investment covers 13.7 kilometres of cycling connection of which 6.5 kilometres will be newly built or reconstructed.

The project will result in enhanced traffic safety for cyclists, reduced negative impacts of motor traffic on the environment, as well as in promoting sustainable mobility and the use of bicycles for everyday errands as an alternative to road transport.
