Promoting sustainable mobility: EU funding for a cycling connection between Muta, Vuzenica and Gortina
Ljubljana, 7 May 2021 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved EU funding for the project Cycling connection between school centre and industrial zone Muta and the settlements Muta, Vuzenica and Gortina. The EUR 1,1 million cycle project that will be implemented by the Slovenian Infrastructure Agency under the Agreement on the development of the Koroška region will be supported by the EU, with the contribution from the European Regional Development Fund standing at EUR 482,000.
As part of the project, Slovenian Infrastructure Agency intends to provide a 3.03-kilometre long cycling connection, of which a 1.79-kilometre long stretch will be newly built. Physically separated, well-maintained, high quality functional cycling routes will ensure safe cycling between industrial zone Muta and school centre and the settlements Vuzenica and Muta.
The project aims to support and spur the uptake of sustainable mobility in Municipality Muta and in the wider area. The newly provided set of interconnected routes will contribute to delivering on the goal of sustainable mobility in Koroška region, by ensuring better air quality and reducing noise levels and by improving mobility for regional residents and improving accessibility to individual areas and services.
