Ljubljana, 7 May 2021 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved EU funding for the project Agreement on the development of region – Cycling connection between Lendava, Dobrovnik and Kobilje. The EUR 1.2 million cycle project that will be implemented jointly by municipalities Lendava, Dobrovnik and Kobilje under the Agreement on the development of the Pomurje region will be supported by the EU, with the contribution from the European Regional Development Fund standing at EUR 490,000.
Over 4.35 kilometres of new cycling routes will be developed to form a 19-kilometre long cycling network. The project will involve the construction of three sections of two-way cycle tracks in municipalities Lendava, Dobrovnik and Kobilje.
The project aims to improve both transport and environmental conditions that encourage the uptake of sustainable modes of transport by residents in the region and to improve accessibility to individual areas and services. The project will support the shift in travel behaviour patterns encouraging the residents to opt for walking, cycling, using public transport and uptaking e-mobility. In turn, the safety of cyclists as important traffic participants will substantially improve.
