Ljubljana, 22 June 2021 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved EU funding for the project Senior day care – Planina. The EUR 1 million project will be implemented by Urban Municipality Kranj under the Agreement on the development of the Gorenjska region and supported by the EU, with the contribution from the European Regional Development Fund standing at EUR 280,000.

As part of the adaptive reuse project, Urban Municipality intends to renovate and repurpose the existing store building in the neighbourhood Planina and turn it into an adult day care centre providing a safe and interactive environment for seniors over the age of 65. Thus, the original building will be stripped down to its structural core in preparation for a comprehensive renovation in the coming months, including replacement of the roof, windows and doors, renewal of the facade and renovation of the flooring. The day care centre will cater to the needs of 30 seniors.

The project is part of the country’s deinstitutionalization agenda which foresees a significant shift from institutional care to community-based services for local communities and beyond and contributes to improving the quality of available community-based services.

Renovation work will kick off this fall and the project is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2022.
