EU funding helps people with disabilities from municipalities Škocjan and Kočevje lead a more independent life
Ljubljana, 23 December 2020 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has issued a funding decision for the project Ensuring appropriate housing for vulnerable groups and boosting their active participation. Total project budget stands at EUR 1.06 million, EUR 280,000 of the available funding will come from the European Regional Development Fund. The project will be jointly carried out by both municipalities.
Two housing units catering to the needs of individuals with physical and mental disabilities from Kočevje and Škocjan will be set up under the project. The housing will be equipped and fit to accommodate individuals with disabilities, meeting all their needs to help them lead an independent life away from their families, which will boost their integration in the community, making them feel more empowered and confident.
As part of the project, Municipality Škocjan will buy a property at Bučke, have experts draw up the required project documentation and finance the construction of a housing unit able to accommodate from four to six individuals. In Kočevje, local authorities intend to reconstruct and adapt the existing building located at the Reška cesta street as well as to construct an extension to the existing building so that the repurposed building will receive up to six individuals with disabilities enabling them to live independently in their own homes.
