EU funding for sustainable urban development projects in Slovenj Gradec
Ljubljana, 6 November 2018 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, the Managing Authority for ERDF, ESF and Cohesion Fund, has issued a grant decision for two projects which will be implemented in Urban Municipality of Slovenj Gradec, i.e. ‘’Restoration of unused land surrounding Mercator shopping centre – Construction of indoor swimming pool and development of urban park’’ and ‘’Non-profit apartment complex Polje’’. The funding made available for both projects equals EUR 11.1 million, of which EUR 6.2 million will come from ERDF.
The redevelopment project aims to restore the previously developed and currently unused land surrounding Mercator shopping centre through the development of a public park and construction of a pool complex offering both an indoor and an outdoor swimming pool to breathe new life in this part of the town, integrate it into the community and improve its status through repurposing and conversion. The project is worth EUR 6.8 million and will receive a contribution from ERDF equalling EUR 4.1 million to.
Non-profit housing offering 54 units will be developed in the scope of the project ‘’Non-profit apartment complex Polje’’. The landscaping part of the project will include development of roads, sidewalks, parking lots and green space surrounding the apartment building, which will help revive the degraded urban area and turn it into a stunning space with a specific character. The project is worth EUR 4.3 million and will receive a contribution from ERDF equalling EUR 2.1 million.
The projects are included in the Sustainable Urban Strategy of the Town of Slovenj Gradec and are supported by the Integrated Territorial Investment mechanism.
