EU funding for start-ups in high-unemployment areas

Ljubljana, 9 October 2017 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy, the Managing Authority for ERDF, ESF and Cohesion fund, issued a grant decision for the ‘’Call for proposals for incentives for start-ups in high-unemployment areas in 2018-2019 (PR2)’’ which was published today in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Slovenia by the Ministry of Economic Development and Technology. A total of EUR 3 million in funding is available under this call for proposals; the ERDF contribution accounts for 75% of the budget.

The call aims to provide support to individuals or groups starting a business in high-unemployment areas of Slovenia which are located in the Eastern Slovenia cohesion region. The funding will help improve operation of business start-ups and tapping of the development potentials, and is expected to increase the survival rate of early-stage businesses, while improving their competitiveness in the national market and abroad. The call aims to support the development and growth of supported businesses and helps turn ideas of enterprising individuals and groups into successful businesses; the call also pursues creation of businesses with growth potential. Focus will be given to the development and commercialisation of products, processes and services. The funding that is being made available will contribute to narrowing the development gap in high-unemployment areas, encouraging and supporting start-ups, and creating new jobs.
