Ensuring access to safe drinking water: EUR 22 million in EU funding for upgrading the water supply system in the Pomurje region

Ljubljana, 23 June 2021 – Government Office for Development and European Cohesion Policy has approved EU funding for the project ''Upgrade of the water supply system B. The EUR 36 million environmental infrastructure project will be implemented by Municipality Rogašovci as the project promoter together with municipalities Beltinci, Cankova, Gornji Petrovci, Grad, Hodoš, Kuzma, Moravske Toplice, Murska Sobota, Puconci, Šalovci and Tišina under the Agreement on the development of the Pomurje region. The project will receive a contribution from the Cohesion Fund amounting to nearly EUR 22 million.

The project promoter, Municipality Rogašovci and the abovementioned municipalities intend to carry out hydraulic improvements to the existing water supply system and upgrade it. The project actually constitutes an upgrade of the EU-funded project Drinking water supply in the Pomurje region – System B which was carried out in the period 2007-2013. It will include construction of a 167-kilometre long water supply network with the associated structures, fittings and appurtenances, improvement of the water source Fazanerija and setting up of a control centre with technological solutions allowing management and remote control and monitoring of over 91 structures of the water supply network.

As a result, as many as 52,149 local residents will benefit from a safer, better and more reliable supply with quality drinking water.

According to the schedule, the project will kick off in the fall and is expected to be completed sometime in the second half of 2023.
