Sobota Lake

The Sobota Lake is a must-see in the Pomurje region. Thanks to its redeveloped lakeshores, enough green space, a motor skills park with a children’s playground, a designated picnic area, an event site and a number of other attractions and activities it offers, the venue makes for a perfect getaway. Comprehensive revitalisation of the southern bank of the Sobota Lake, which received ERDF funding, included works such as bank development, landscaping, setting up of a motor skills exercise trail boasting 35 stations and a variety of exercise elements, setting up of urban furniture, design and setting up of playground equipment and structures, building of an event site and four designated picnic areas, creation of a natural environmental setting, i.e. a biotope in the hinterland of the lake on land previously used as agricultural land or degraded or overgrown with invasive alien plants as a form of ecoremediation, and installation of path lighting.

The modern environment-friendly approach to designing and setting up the motor skills park built on the measures that contribute to habitat conservation and have an ecological function and purification capacity. The motor skills park provides a range of activities and exercises catering to the needs of people of all ages, which makes the venue much more attractive and recognisable as a tourist destination. In fact, the entire site aims to promote exercise and healthy lifestyle among local population and tourists in the region. The project is important from the environmental aspect as well, it has helped revitalize the former gravel pit site, which has helped reduce water and soil pollution.

The project of the development of the southern end of the Sobota Lake thematically complements the project of setting up of the pavilion ‘’Door to Pomurje - Regional Promotional Centre’’.
