V2I Smart Highway – two-way information exchange between highway and vehicles

The project V2I Smart Highway, implemented by the company Asist LLC, is a novelty in the field of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) and real-time communication between vehicles and infrastructure. The V2I Smart Highway system keeps drivers informed of the state on the roads in real time and enables drivers to react accordingly which results in fewer congestions, accidents, stops and starts, faster travel times and cleaner air – all in all – in comfortable, safe and economical travelling.

The testing of the product/system was first carried out in a testing laboratory where the entire real environment simulation infrastructure was established. With the adequate operation of the individually developed system components being established, the components were embedded into the real environment, namely in the testing point of the highway just outside Ljubljana, Slovenia, at the south entrance of the Šentvid tunnel, where continuous tests in terms of the proper functioning of the communication and responsiveness of the system in real time was carried out. “We are extremely pleased with the results and we look forward to future presentations to the wider interested public and marketing activities with the hope that the responsible stakeholders recognise the wide-range advantages of the system” they say.

The project received EU funding under the call for proposals RDI in value chains and networks. The company Asist LLC, employing twenty creative and experienced experts, strives to contribute to creating and introducing innovations in the field of system automation. The company is one of the first companies in the world that has established a real-time communication system between vehicles and infrastructure (V2I, V2X).
