Dormouse Adventure Park

The journey through the Dormouse Adventure Park begins in the Polhov Gradec mansion with the children having a very important task – they will help the dormouse find a new home. Along the way, they meet 10 large wooden sculptures of forest animals, wooden houses, a children’s apiary, an animal post office, badger's burrow and didactic elements.

The Polhov Gradec Dormouse Adventure Park is designed for adventure through a blend of the fairy-tale and real world, which encourages children to be active outdoors and teaches them about the nature and culture of Polhov Gradec. It encourages them to think for themselves and to develop a relationship with nature, whilst encouraging their imaginations and creativity.

The fairy-tale-adventure trail is designed for preschool children and pupils attending the 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade. It is easily accessible and shaped as a circle. Children will need about two hours to visit and experience all the points.

The Polhov Gradec Dormouse Adventure Park is a complex tourist product encompassing the Rogovilež the dormouse picture book and a musical fairy tale based on it, the story and the theatre show “Polh in Gradec”, the Polhova knjižica booklet used as a didactic and pedagogical aid, 10 original artistic wooden sculptures of forest animals, children’s didactic apiary, didactic elements and wooden skills elements, and trained interpretive guides. According to the mayor of municipality Dobrova – Polhov Gradec, Franc Setnikar, “The Polhov Gradec Dormouse Adventure Park is so special because it has connected numerous actors in Polhov Gradec who strive to encourage the cultural and tourist development /… /. This resulted in developing a project that promotes the local environment and unites local actors in a new story of family tourism.”
